Area Police
Around 50 vehicles have been smeared with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the German municipality of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, as reported by police.
Vehicles, building surfaces and mailboxes were marked, in some cases with prohibited symbols, they announced in a official communication.
Officers state they were alerted during the night on Wednesday, when a man noticed that a car in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been marked with a red-colored liquid.
The fluid had been placed in the shape of a banned symbol, they stated.
Officers then discovered multiple other marked vehicles and residential walls in the surrounding area.
Nazi symbols are banned in Germany under regulations banning the visible presentation of Nazi-era symbols.
Law enforcement state initial examinations suggest the substance was probably blood from a person.
"There is still no indication as to its origin; authorities are presently not cognizant of any harm in relation with the occurrence," they commented.
Municipal representatives announced they were working "to resolve the case" and have requested to the residents for tips.
A senior political figure said the incident left him stunned and needed to be addressed quickly.
"This event hits the very heart of Hanau and revives the trauma of the right-wing violent incident half a decade ago," he wrote on a platform, mentioning the murder of nine individuals by a shooter focusing on individuals of immigrant origin in February 2020.
