Nineteen of Medvedev's twenty-one titles have been earned on hardcourt

A comeback the Russian player secured his initial trophy for 882 days with success over Corentin Moutet in the tournament championship match.

The athlete, a former world number one, has experienced a challenging season, winning just a single victory at the major tournaments and undergoing a meltdown at the US Open.

Medvedev's unpredictability on the ATP Tour - and difficulties with his serve in specific - resulted in him dropping out of the top ten and finally separating with long-term trainer his previous coach.

Now training with his coach and his other coach, the tennis star has consistently improved in the recent weeks - climaxing in a tightly fought three-set victory over opponent Moutet.

This represents the player's maiden trophy since the Italian tournament and first on a hard court after spring of that year.

Victory also indicates the Russian has won twenty-one victories at 21 distinct tournaments.

"For the first time I'm at a competition with my children simultaneously, so to get a title is particularly special," commented tennis professional Medvedev.

"This title is in honour of my child her name, because the initial championship I got when my child her name was born was for her."

The athlete, the former major winner, had been defeated in his previous six title deciders, including in the German tournament earlier this year.

His counter-punching approach and recurring outbursts on the playing surface had led observers to wonder if his capacity to compete at the top level was concluded.

Yet the 29-year-old has implemented adjustments in the last few weeks, making an effort to advance forward and perform aggressively, supported by an better serving game.

The champion came back from a break down in the opening set against the tricky opponent, taking four of the concluding five games to gain the advantage.

The pair swapped break points in the second set before Moutet, bidding for his first tour championship, took control to create a decider.

The opponent defended four early-game chances in a close third set before Medvedev broke to 15 to serve for the match.

Fittingly, Medvedev clinched victory with a shot at the front of the court, with Moutet incapable to handle a return after a lengthy match.
